The brother of Dan Hutra, the perpetrator of three murders a few days ago in Tirana, gave a long interview to journalist Igli Çelmeta in News24He has publicly apologized to the families of the victims, while explaining that neither he nor any of his family have spoken to his brother for many years.
Among other things, he stated that his last communication with Dan Hutra was in 2006, as he recalls that he asked him to either change his ways or forget about his family.
According to him, the reason he left to live outside Albania and took his other brother was the fear that Dan Hutra would eliminate them too, because they had never been to prison or because they were not interested.
He also appeals to the judiciary to give him the maximum sentence, adding that "with these corrupt judges, I'm afraid he'll be released from prison again."
Full interview:
Journalist Igli Çelmeta: You are Dan Hutra's brother, why did you ask to speak, what do you want to say?
Dan Hutra's brother: First of all, I want to express my most sincere and deepest condolences that come from the heart of a man to the families of the victims, who lost their lives in vain, three girls in the prime of life. This was a massacre, such massacres that I, 45 years old, have only experienced in the years when the Serbs committed against Kosovars. Secondly, that criminal is his brother, but he is no longer my brother, and anyone who knows me knows that since the first murder he committed, we have denied him as a brother.
Journalist Igli Çelmeta: So in 2007 when Dan Hutra killed his first wife, you cut off contact with your brother?
Dan Hutra's brother: Me and the other brother. Even when I talked to the family of the first victim, I told them that he is no longer my brother, for me justice should be done, whoever wants to do it, I don't care what happens to that man, because life was given by God and only God can take it away, not man.
Journalist Igli Çelmeta: Dan Hutra was first sentenced in 2003, to two years in prison. What do you know about this case and why was he sentenced?
Dan Hutra's brother: I want to stop here because the media, I'm very sorry, there are also journalists who throw a lot of mud to fill their show. In 2003, Dan Hutra was convicted of locking his mother and one of his sisters-in-law in a room so that they wouldn't call the police. For rape and not for rape, because rape is sexual intercourse, he was convicted of rape
Journalist Igli Çelmeta: So in 2003 he was convicted of rape
Dan Hutra's brother: Not for rape, for violence.
Journalist Igli Çelmeta: About violence, I understand.
Dan Hutra's brother: For violence and he was charged with rape and if it is rape, arrest him and take him to court instead of that criminal because for rape he should receive from 7 to 15 years in prison as Albanian law says and not the two years he was sentenced to.
Journalist Igli Çelmeta: After this crime for which he was sentenced to two years in prison, he was sentenced in 2007 when he brutally murdered his first wife, what do you know, what conflict did Dan Hutra have with his first wife? Why did he commit the macabre crime?
Dan Hutra's brother: My other brother and I have never met, nor have we met with her family, nor have I ever spoken to them. Only after the incident did I call the family to offer my condolences and tell them that you are free, and that justice will be served.
Journalist Igli Çelmeta: How do you know your brother Dan Hutra, what was he like in the family, was he violent?
Dan Hutra's brother: He never had a family, I denied that job because when a person does not create a family and does not submit to family rules, we all suffer for a family, we all work to build a family, he never committed himself and I told him you are not my brother because you are not able to support a family, you are not able to create a family. I have never been interested, never, not when he went to prison, not how the prison went, not how the trial went, I have never received any information and I am not interested in receiving any information.
Journalist Igli Çelmeta: When did you last meet your brother?
Dan Hutra's brother: I last met my brother in 2006.
Journalist Igli Çelmeta: What was your last communication with your brother, what did you say to him?
Dan Hutra's brother: The last communication was, either change your path, or forget about me. Change your path and get back to life or forget about me because you have nothing to do with me.
Journalist Igli Çelmeta: What kind of life did Dan Hutra lead, did he have problems, did he have connections to criminal groups?
Dan Hutra's brother: I don't know, let justice find him. Those designer clothes, those money he gave, those judges who, in order to get rich, let criminals out of prison. The prosecutor, in order to get rich, lets criminals out of prison. A poor man steals energy because he can't pay, goes and does three years in prison, someone who builds an illegal building to cover the heads of the scoundrels, goes to prison and stays in prison, destitute because he has no money to give to the prosecutor and the judge, while the criminal kills, massacres and gets out of prison, this is the misfortune of the Albanian, because it is a shame for an Albania that is so small and that we suffer such things. That criminal really killed three daughters of mothers and dried four hearts because he killed four, he dried four mothers' hearts, but he also killed 12 others who are unburied. We are killed, but we are unburied, no one is burying us, 12 others have been killed, we are unburied.
Journalist Igli Çelmeta: From the information you have, after being released from prison for the murder of his first wife, what did Dan Hutra do, what kind of life did he lead, did he have contact with other family members?
Dan Hutra's brother: I tell you with all the greatest sincerity, with the other brother we fled, I took the other brother out of fear, when Dan Hutra came out of prison, I transferred him from Albania because if he saw us, would he leave us? We were the first on the list because we didn't help him and follow him to prison, we were the first on the list for that, he would eliminate us first.
Journalist Igli Çelmeta: You say, your own family had conflicts with Dan Hutra?
Dan Hutra's brother: Not conflicts, but because we hadn't distanced ourselves from him and the only reason I pulled my other brother and the whole family away was out of fear that one day he would suffer like the innocent victims did.
Journalist Igli Çelmeta: In court, Dan Hutra stated that he did not regret the crimes he committed, and even gave serious details about how he committed these crimes. How do you judge his statement?
Dan Hutra's brother: He is not just a man, he just has no blood. All of Albania has felt sorry for what he did, that man has no blood. In order for those victims to be cleansed, that criminal and the judge must appear before their families, four mothers are crying (tears)
Journalist Igli Çelmeta: I understand you, I know that it is a very difficult moment for you and your family, as it is a very serious event that has shocked all of Albania?
Dan Hutra's brother: No one thinks about those mothers, I have children of my own (tears) I imagine my children, if it happens to my child, but we have no justice, the judge is out to line his own pocket, he doesn't care what that criminal will do, he finds reasons and tells him to bring this letter just to reduce his sentence and get him out of prison. The poor policeman gets tired of receiving a salary of 500 thousand lek and putting his life in danger to catch the criminal and after two weeks he sees him free again in the city.
Journalist Igli Çelmeta: What do you know about the conflict that the Hysa family and their daughter Elena Hysa had regarding your brother Dan Hutra? Are you aware of it?
Dan Hutra's brother: I have no connection, no information. I am very sorry, spiritually with the greatest pain, I have no words to express it, I am with them, with their pain, I know what pain they have because I told you I have children myself.
Journalist Igli Çelmeta: So you have severed all ties with your brother, Dan Hutra, and as you said before, you no longer call him your brother?
Dan Hutra's brother: Anyone who knows me knows that since 2007 I haven't called him my brother, since the last moment I told him to either change his ways or forget about me. When Dan Hutra committed the first murder of an innocent girl, I cried all day and people came and said to me "what's wrong?", I told him he's dead, my brother, but no, they told me he was caught by the police and is in prison, for me he died today.
Journalist Igli Çelmeta: As Dan Hutra's brother, what appeal do you make to Albanian justice for a person who in 20 years has taken the lives of 4 women and injured 3 others?
Dan Hutra's brother: I appeal to the justice system, if they have any sense and know what it means to lose a child, to judge you by the law and not by your pocketbook. To judge you as the criminal deserves, they are taking us 40 years back to look for Enver Hoxha, to raise Enver and hang him as he was, and there was no blood feud, no revenge, and the murders did not increase.
Journalist Igli Çelmeta: What punishment do you think your brother should receive?
Dan Hutra's brother: I can't describe it, if you burn him, if you see him in the fire and throw a little more gasoline on him to burn faster. Where there is a sentence, I'm sorry, it doesn't happen and they release him again, but with these judges we have, he will be out one day, I'm very afraid that one day that criminal will come out again. With these judges who take money, I'm very afraid that one day he will manage to get out. When today he should be buried together with those he killed innocently. I appeal to the justice system not to engage in useless work, first of all to establish justice, the criminal is punished, not just punished, punished, maximum punishment. Only God gave life and only God can take it.
Journalist Igli Çelmeta: Do you know Rrahman Sela?
Dan Hutra's brother: But since I don't know him, he doesn't exist and nothing has ever happened. He has his own family, I publicly apologize to Rrahman Sela for his name being on TV. I have nothing to do with him, if I had, I would have explained it to Rrahman here 23 years ago, that's all I had to say. Once again, my other brother and I offer our most sincere condolences and a public apology to the families of the innocent victims. Oh God, God willing, we won't see or hear such things anymore.
Journalist Igli Çelmeta: A very significant message about a very, very serious event that has shocked the entire country. Thank you for the interview.
Dan Hutra's brother: A family obligation, nothing more.
