Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi has warned that any attack on the Lebanese capital, Beirut, would lead to a major escalation of the conflict in the region.

In a statement released on Wednesday, Araghchi said that striking Beirut would bring about a "full resumption of the war," implying that Tehran considers any such attack a red line.

Iran, Hezbollah's main backer, has repeatedly stressed that stability in Lebanon is a key element for the region's security and has warned against any action that could expand the fighting beyond the current conflict zones.
