"US President Donald Trump is willing to meet with Iran's Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei to resolve disputes between the two countries, not because he agrees with him, but because he believes that's how problems are solved," US Secretary of State Marco Rubio said.
While also talking about the nuclear program, Rubio said that it is clear that Iran will never be allowed to acquire nuclear weapons.
"The first is that I think it's pretty clear that Iran will never be allowed to have nuclear weapons, because that poses a threat not only to the United States, to Europe, to global security and to the region. There's no doubt about that. We also want to have forces in the region because Iran has shown the willingness and the ability to attack and strike American targets in the region. We have bases because of our alliances in the region, and Iran has shown in the past that it's willing to attack us and/or threaten our bases. So we need to have enough firepower in the region to make sure they don't make a mistake and cause something bigger," he said.
