According to the Italian press, the government of Rome intends to send up to five ships of its Navy to the Strait of Hormuz once the war is over. These are reportedly two minesweepers, an escort naval unit, a ship that will supply other ships with fuel and, possibly, a frigate.

"We are talking about operations that should not be carried out in a war zone, because they are particularly critical and - consequently - there is always a degree of risk," said today the Chief of the General Staff of the Italian Navy, Admiral Giuseppe Beruti Bergotto.

"Our Navy should not be the only one that offers its contribution. Our activities abroad are carried out within the framework of NATO, the European Union or international missions with significant participation. Because, in this way, the effectiveness of the operation increases, information is exchanged, security increases and the overall means at our disposal also increase", added Admiral Beruti Bergotto.
