Economic difficulties and the lack of appreciation for the work done over the years continue to remain an open wound for the elderly in Albania.

Invited to the show "News24 Weekend", former miner and pensioner Fatmir Gashi spoke about the reality that former underground workers and pensioners in general face today.

Gashi said that for him and many others, the concept of vacations has become an impossible luxury for years. "I haven't taken a vacation this year. I haven't been able to for many years, financial and health factors are factors that don't allow me to go on vacation," he said.

Further, the former miner expressed his regret for the way the government and state bodies treat this category today, making a comparison with the past. “The assessment of former miners is deplorable.

"It was a completely different treatment compared to today, especially as seen by the authorities, by the government. It is a shame, a tragedy to see such results. We have forgotten the word happiness," Gashi concluded during his speech.
