Iran has said it will only accept “a fair and comprehensive agreement” in negotiations with the United States to end the conflict in the Middle East, while Washington talks about significant progress in the diplomatic process. Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi, after a meeting in Beijing with Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi, declared that Tehran will defend “its legitimate rights and interests” and that it will not accept any agreement that is not comprehensive and balanced.

He did not comment directly on the announcements of US President Donald Trump, who declared that there was “great progress” in negotiations with Iran and that the US had temporarily suspended some naval operations in the Strait of Hormuz as part of efforts to reduce tensions. According to Trump’s posts, the US and Iran have agreed to a temporary pause in some naval military activities, while efforts for a final agreement continue. Following these developments, Brent oil prices fell slightly on international markets.

On the other hand, US officials, including Secretary of State Marco Rubio, have stated that Iran should not have control over traffic in the Strait of Hormuz, one of the most important arteries of the global oil trade. Washington and Tehran have taken reciprocal measures on the ground, with the US reporting interference with Iranian naval and military assets, while tensions in the region have directly affected global energy markets. However, despite diplomatic contacts and several rounds of direct talks, efforts to reach a lasting agreement remain fruitless.
