Bosnian Serb leader Milorad Dodik, whose mandate as president of Republika Srpska was revoked by the Central Election Commission in Bosnia and Herzegovina during the day, has announced a referendum on his position at the head of this entity.

Following the Commission's announcement, Dodik gathered his coalition partners. He said they unanimously decided to call a referendum.

"The mandate was given to me by the people, so I will listen to them in the referendum, which will be held in the coming period and which will decide for me," he said.

Dodik earlier in the day reacted to the decision by saying that he does not recognize the Commission.

The Commission's decision against Dodik was made after his sentence to one year in prison and a six-year ban from exercising the function of president, a decision that directly affected his legitimacy to continue in office.
