"In this format, Donald Trump was the most honest, he comes here as a fully established arms dealer and in this sense represents interests. He speaks respectfully of Putin, Xi and they of him. Other leaders speak with different rhetoric," Croatian President Zoran Milanovic said today from the NATO summit being held in Ankara.
Croatia's stance is to be loyal and fair to NATO members, he added, not to do anything behind their backs, which we are not doing, but to closely monitor the development of the situation and our interests.
"We are not in the Coalition of the Willing, I have repeated this to everyone here, but no one has even asked, others do not see us the way we see ourselves and that is good, so that we do not stand out too much. Croatia has paid a lot of others' bills in history, and sometimes made miscalculations for itself, but now I hope that a warm and beautiful sunny period has come, in which we will benefit from what is most important, which is the position. Croatia's position is good and we should not be where we do not need to be," Milanović said.
He stressed that the Coalition was mentioned by Emmanuel Macron and Keir Starmer, but without form and clarity.
"That's why we can't be there. This idea of a Western presence in Ukraine is very dangerous and unsafe. I mentioned what Serbia has done recently with weapons, I hope they won't get a wheeled aircraft carrier because they don't have a sea. The question to be asked is what to do with it. Hypersonic missiles are just one segment, there are more and we will have to oppose this in order to be equipped with something similar. NATO should know this and it is my duty to speak about this," Milanovic said.
