About 15 years ago, during political actions against Sali Berisha's government, Rama emphatically declared from the squares that a prime minister in such conditions "should apologize and leave once and for all, at least as incompetent". He also accused the then government of being a "government that had turned into a regime", which worked "only for itself".

Despite this strong moral rhetoric of the past, today – faced with opposition demands and citizen protests for his resignation – Rama is content with a short, blunt statement in parliament: "I am the prime minister of this country."
