Lawyer Kujtim Cakrani has announced that he will no longer represent former President Ilir Meta, whom he represented in the criminal process currently underway at the Special Court against Corruption and Organized Crime (SCOC).

Through a public statement, the "Cakrani" Law Firm announced that it had taken over Meta's legal defense on May 24, 2025, emphasizing that the cooperation was developed with professionalism and full commitment to protecting the client's rights.

However, on June 29, 2026, the firm announced that the attorney-client relationship had ended.

According to the statement, the breakup of cooperation was a result of the loss of mutual trust and the lack of necessary cooperation between the client and the legal defense attorney, a situation that, according to the lawyer, was particularly evident after the last court hearing of the case on the merits.

Cakrani emphasizes that the decision was made in accordance with the Code of Ethics of the Chamber of Advocates and the legislation in force, clarifying that there is no conflict of interest, accusation or clash between the parties.

"The decision simply reflects the absence of the objective conditions necessary for the continuation of effective legal protection," the statement said.

In conclusion, the "Cakrani" Law Firm wishes Ilir Meta the best of luck in finding the right legal representation and guarantees that it will respect the complete confidentiality of all information obtained during the exercise of its mandate as a defense attorney.
