The Mayor of Rrogozhina, Edison Memolla, was found guilty of active electoral corruption committed in collusion and sentenced to 1 year in prison by the Special Court of Appeal.
Because the decision is final, Memolla must serve his sentence in prison cells, thus leaving the Rrogozhina municipality without a mayor, paving the way for early elections. As an additional punishment for him, the court signed off on removing Memolla's right to exercise public functions for 5 years.
The other two defendants, Ndriçim Tafxhafa and Blerim Xhamanin, who were found guilty of electoral corruption and falsification of documents and sentenced to 1 year in prison each, will also go to prison.
The only one to escape from the cell is the defendant Isuf Tosku, for whom the sentence of 1 year and 4 months of probation remained in effect.
SPAK completed the investigations into Memolla and submitted the criminal file against him for trial in 2023.
He was accused by the Special Prosecution Office of having influenced electrician Blerim Xhamani, so that the latter would not cut off the electricity to a debtor subscriber, in order for his wife to vote in his favor in the local by-elections on March 6, 2022, when he competed under the Socialist Party banner.
SPAK says that Memolla communicated with Xhaman, promising jobs in the Rrogozhina Municipality for people who would vote for him.
While electrician Xhamami is accused of falsifying the data in the electricity cut-off report, together with Isuf Tosku, claiming that they had cut off her electricity, when they had not committed such an act. According to SPAK, Ndriçim Tafxhafa promised a citizen the repayment of obligations to OSHEE and those for housing in exchange for a vote.
