DP Chairman Sali Berisha closed his speech before the Prime Minister, while protesters threw Molotov cocktails towards the government building.

Some protesters also launched fireworks towards the government headquarters.

The police reacted by firing tear gas, while a water cannon was also used to spray water at the protesters.

Protest

The Democratic Party held a national protest in front of the Prime Minister's Office this Saturday, demanding the resignation of Prime Minister Edi Rama and Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Infrastructure and Energy, Belinda Balluku. The latter was suspended from exercising her functions by a decision of the Constitutional Court, but the Constitutional Court temporarily reinstated her in office, pending the adjudication of the merits of the appeal filed by Prime Minister Edi Rama.

The protest was called by the opposition in response to Balluk's scandals, after she was indicted by SPAK for corruption and tender abuse. SPAK also requested the lifting of immunity in order to arrest Balluk, but the socialists postponed the decision-making of the Mandates Council to January 28.

The opposition has warned that the protests in front of the Prime Minister's Office will be sustained and a continuation of a series of political actions, until the Government and Prime Minister Edi Rama leave office.

Previously, in a post on social networks, Berisha addressed a message to citizens where he called today the day when the opposition people put the head of government on trial.

"Today is the day of civic courage. The day when the opposition people put on trial the chief thief, the prime minister linked to bandits, traffickers and murderers. It is the day of victory over the evil that has gripped Albania," he writes.

On the other hand, the police have taken strict measures by deploying 1350 officers to ensure the smooth running of the rally.
A police cordon has been set up in front of the Prime Minister's Office building, while numerous police forces wearing spacesuits and gas masks have lined up in the area.
