A Wisconsin man is accused of killing his wife, disposing of her body, then posing as a “widower” and even using her wedding ring to propose to his new partner on Tinder.

Aaron Nelson, 43, was arrested Friday on charges of first-degree murder and concealment of a body. According to the Dodge County Sheriff's Office, the victim is his wife, Alexis Nelson, whose remains have not been found since she disappeared about a year ago.

Authorities say the couple was last seen on security camera footage on March 29, 2025, at a grocery store in the town of Beaver Dam, where they lived. Shortly after the woman disappeared, her phone records reportedly showed her moving to another area while her husband purchased a large plastic trash can, an item that has been put under the microscope by investigators.

According to court documents, the 43-year-old then created a fake Facebook profile under the name “James Nelson,” claiming to be a widower. Shortly after, he met a woman through the dating platform Tinder, with whom, she testified to authorities, he moved in with her within weeks.

During the investigation, officers noticed that the 43-year-old's new partner was wearing an engagement ring — which was later confirmed to belong to his missing wife. A subsequent investigation found a trash can at his new partner's residence containing traces of blood that were identified as Alexis Nelson, while a dog specially trained to sniff out corpses found signs of human decomposition in an outbuilding on the property.

Although the woman's remains have not been found to date, authorities have arrested the defendant, who faces serious charges of involuntary manslaughter and concealment of evidence.
