MP Marjana Koçeku's exit from the Socialist Party parliamentary group is not simply an individual political move.

The timing at which she chose to make the decision public gives it special weight.

Two weeks after the civic protest filled the squares and attracted the attention of public opinion at home and abroad, a majority MP decides to leave the ruling group.

In her statement, Koçeku spoke of principles and boundaries that, according to her, cannot be exceeded. It was a way of implying that she no longer saw herself as part of a political group that governs the country the way it does. Although she did not articulate direct accusations, the message was clear. According to her, there are moments when personal beliefs outweigh party discipline.

The reaction on social media to the Socialist MP's decision was immediate and almost unanimous. Her departure from the Socialist Party was seen as a rare example of putting principles above political interests. Many citizens hailed her decision as an act of political courage, while protesters publicly invited her to join them in the square and speak before them.

Perhaps even in the corridors of the Parliament there are MPs who view this step with admiration. Perhaps some of them share the same dilemmas, the same dissatisfactions or the same reservations. But not everyone has the freedom, the will or the courage to do what Marjana Koçeku did.

Albanian politics has often shown that breaking away from the majority requires strength and willingness to face the consequences.

For this reason, regardless of the political beliefs that anyone may have, Neomalësore's decision has aroused interest.

At a time when most politicians are accused of putting career before principles, this departure is a reminder that there are individuals who choose to follow their conscience, even when this path is the most difficult.
