New security camera footage has documented the horrific moments of an armed attack at a school on the outskirts of Bangkok, where a 14-year-old student opened fire on teachers.
The incident took place on Friday morning at Debsirin Nonthaburi School, north of Bangkok. According to authorities, the attack left at least nine people dead and more than 20 injured. There were no reports of any students among the victims. Security camera footage shows the 14-year-old leaving a classroom as gunfire can be heard in the background. He is then seen moving armed through the school corridors, causing panic and chaos, before quickly leaving the area filmed.
The attack lasted about an hour. The minor, who was injured after shooting himself, died while being transported to the hospital. Investigations have revealed another shocking detail. Authorities suspect that the 14-year-old had first killed his grandparents in the apartment where he lived, before going to school. Police have announced that the weapon used was a 9 mm pistol, which belonged to his grandfather. Dozens of cartridges were also found in the minor's possession.
Meanwhile, the motive for the attack remains unclear. Authorities are continuing their investigation to find out what prompted the 14-year-old to commit this serious act. Thailand's Deputy Interior Minister has stated that searches of the minor's apartment have found evidence that he was passionate about video games.
However, evidence from the school paints a different picture. One of the teachers described the 14-year-old as a good kid and a good student, noting that he was not known for aggressive behavior. Investigators are now analyzing security camera footage, testimony and evidence collected at the apartment and school premises, to reconstruct the minute-by-minute dynamics of the attack and determine the motive for the massacre.
