A serious incident has shaken Long Island in New York, where a 22-year-old from El Salvador is accused of killing two women in separate knife attacks within a few hours.

According to US authorities, Rony Yahir Alvarenga Rivera is suspected of killing his 57-year-old neighbor, Raquel Hernandez Castillo, in the building they lived in on April 30. Prosecutors said the young man attacked the woman with dozens of stab wounds, later claiming he was irritated by noises she was making, including walking in high heels and talking loudly on the phone.

Nassau County District Attorney Ann Donnelly said that when Rivera was arrested, his clothes were covered in blood. According to her, the suspect told investigators that he knew he would be caught for the first murder and therefore planned another deadly attack.

The second victim was Ana Maria de Águila Córdova, 42, a mother of three who worked alongside the suspect at a fast-food restaurant. According to the investigation, Rivera waited for her for about 30 minutes near a trash can and attacked her when she went outside to throw out the trash shortly after midnight on May 1.

Authorities say they had an argument and the 22-year-old claimed he felt "disrespected" by his colleague. He allegedly stabbed the woman more than 30 times.

After the attack, Rivera called the police himself and reported the crime. According to court documents, he told officers, "I killed someone tonight."
