The United States Embassy in Tirana has published a notice warning Albanian citizens about using tourist visas for the purpose of giving birth in the United States and benefiting from medical services funded by public programs.
In the announcement, the embassy points out that some parents travel to the United States on tourist visas with the intention of giving birth there and use the Medicaid program to cover healthcare costs.
According to the embassy, these costs end up on American taxpayers, while individuals who engage in such practices may face difficulties renewing their visas in the future.
"Many Albanian parents on tourist visas travel to the United States with the intention of giving birth there and use the Medicaid program to cover medical care. These costs are passed on to American taxpayers, and those parents may not be eligible to renew their visas in the future," the US Embassy message states.

US authorities have previously reiterated that tourist visas should not be used for purposes that conflict with their terms, while applicants must accurately state the reason for travel and comply with immigration rules.
