Russia has asked foreign embassies to ensure the "timely evacuation" of diplomatic staff and their citizens from Kiev in the event of a Russian attack on the Ukrainian capital.
The statement was made by the Russian Foreign Ministry, through an official note addressed to foreign diplomatic missions.
According to the announcement, Moscow warned that it could launch a "retaliatory attack" against Kiev if Ukraine attempts to disrupt the May 9 ceremonies and commemorations in Moscow, which are related to Victory Day in World War II.
Russian authorities asked embassies to "ensure the timely evacuation of diplomatic and other mission personnel, as well as citizens, from the city of Kiev," adding to tensions between the two countries on the eve of important state celebrations in Russia.
