Residents of the village of Letan, in the Bradashesh Administrative Unit of the Elbasan Municipality, protested this Wednesday against massive pollution due to the activity of a quarry in the area, raising concerns about the health problems caused by environmental pollution, the dust that spreads almost all day long, as well as the damage to road infrastructure by heavy-duty machinery.

According to residents, the quarry activity near the residential area has been ongoing for more than two years and has brought direct consequences to the daily life of the community.

Residents claim that the level of dust caused by vehicle movement and quarry activity has become concerning, affecting homes, agricultural lands, and roads in the area.

At least one residential block with 50 families near the quarry site is affected by this situation. They say that on days with increased activity they have difficulty keeping their windows open, while according to them, the dust is also deposited on agricultural crops.

"We are covered in dust," is one of the main concerns conveyed by residents during the protest.

According to them, the fruits and vegetables cultivated in the area are covered in dust and as a result, residents are concerned about the possibility of consuming them.

In addition to the alleged pollution, residents also raise concerns about damage to road infrastructure, which they say is related to the constant circulation of heavy vehicles used to transport materials.

Residents indicate that they have repeatedly addressed local and central institutions through complaints and official letters, requesting verification of the situation and taking measures.

However, according to them, despite the complaints filed, the quarry's activity continues.

Residents are requesting the intervention of responsible institutions to verify the level of pollution, the conditions under which the activity is carried out, and the impact it has on the community and the surrounding environment.

They also warn that if the issue is not resolved and concrete measures are not taken, the protests will continue and they will escalate their response.

On a typical day, according to residents, activity at the quarry begins around 08:00 a.m. This Wednesday, at the time of the protest, the work equipment was seen turned off.

Protesting residents and the media were present in the area, who closely followed the situation.

Residents demand that competent institutions come up with a clear stance and take measures if violations of environmental standards or conditions for exercising the activity are found.
