Giorgio Armani, an iconic figure in the fashion world, died on Thursday, September 4, at the age of 91, his fashion house confirmed. Armani passed away at his home.

The designer had not appeared on the June runways as he was recovering from an illness that had plagued him. He was planning a big event to celebrate the 50th anniversary of his fashion house Giorgio Armani during Milan Fashion Week this month.

Signor Armani, as he was always called with respect and admiration by his employees and colleagues, passed away peacefully, surrounded by his loved ones. Tireless to the end, he worked until his last days, dedicated to the company, its collections and its numerous current and future projects.

Over the years, Giorgio Armani has created a vision that has extended from fashion to every aspect of life, anticipating trends with extraordinary clarity and practicality. He has been guided by an insatiable curiosity and a deep attention to the present and to people. Along the way, he has created an open dialogue with the public, earning love and respect for his ability to connect with everyone. Always sensitive to the needs of society, he has been active in many areas, especially in supporting his beloved Milan.

Giorgio Armani is a company with fifty years of history, built with emotion and patience. Giorgio Armani has always made independence – of thought and action – his hallmark. The farewell hall will be open from Saturday, September 6 to Sunday, September 7, from 9:00 a.m. to 18:00 p.m., in Milan, at Via Bergognone 59, in the Armani/Teatro space. In accordance with Mr. Armani's expressed wishes, the funeral will be held in a close family circle.
