The holidays are over and tomorrow the deputies will return to work in the Assembly, with the start of the new parliamentary session. The first plenary session of the third session of the 11th legislature will be held at 17:00.
The first session is expected to be mainly ceremonial, while the concrete work of the Assembly will begin with determining the program and calendar of works for the new parliamentary period.
At 11:00 am, the Conference of Speakers is expected to convene, where the draft work program of the Assembly and the draft calendar of proceedings will be discussed and approved.
In the new parliamentary session, the main attention is expected to be focused on two important reforms: electoral reform and administrative-territorial reform.
Regarding territorial reform, the Socialist Party has filed a proposal to change the current organization of local units. According to the proposal, the number of municipalities in the country will be reduced from 61 to 46.
The initiative has met with opposition, especially in those municipalities that are expected to merge with other local units. The debate is expected to be one of the main issues of political discussion during this session.
In addition to territorial reform, the focus in the Parliament is also expected to return to electoral reform. In the meantime, a protest meeting has been announced in front of the Parliament, while the police are expected to take measures as before, with police fences. The protesters have called for MPs to be hit with eggs and tomatoes tomorrow.
