Police raided the European Commission's premises in Brussels on Thursday in an investigation into the sale of real estate assets to the Belgian state in 2024, a source close to the investigation told AFP.
The EU executive said it was "aware of an ongoing investigation" into the sale of 23 commission buildings in a deal worth around 900 million euros, saying it was "confident that the process was conducted in a compliant manner".
The European Public Prosecutor's Office (EPPO) confirmed that it was "carrying out evidence-gathering activities in an ongoing investigation" involving the European Commission.
