Former Prime Minister and leader of the Democratic Party, Sali Berisha, appeared today at the SPAK premises, in implementation of the "compulsory appearance" security measure, set by the Court. Accompanied by his lawyer, Genc Gjokutaj, Berisha made his periodic appearance at the Special Prosecution Office against Corruption and Organized Crime, within the framework of the investigative procedures that are still ongoing.
As on other occasions, Berisha was welcomed outside the SPAK premises by his supporters, with whom he greeted them.
He is accused of having taken concrete actions during his time as prime minister to approve laws and bylaws that benefited his son-in-law, Jamarbër Malltezi, in the construction of palaces on the site of the former Partizani sports complex.
Malltezi himself faces corruption and money laundering charges. According to SPAK, he illegally benefited from around 5.4 million euros through a construction project, benefits related to decisions taken by the government led at the time by his father-in-law.
