From September 3, Albania will stop importing meat from Brazil.
The National Food Authority has alerted the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development about the new European Union changes regarding the import of meat from Brazil, requesting measures to be taken to continue procedures at border inspection posts after September 3, 2026.
According to the NFA, the European Union, through the Implementing Regulation, has changed the list of countries authorized for export, within the framework of restrictions on the use of certain antimicrobial medicinal products.
As a result of this change, Brazil has been removed from the list of third countries or regions thereof authorised for the entry into the EU of consignments of certain animals and products of animal origin intended for human consumption.
In its response to the AKU, the Ministry of Agriculture assesses that the changes approved by the EU are directly reflected in the implementation of the Albanian order, as the latter conditions imports with the approval of production areas and facilities by the EU.
The Ministry of Agriculture asks the AKU to notify businesses of the cessation of meat imports from Brazil, in accordance with the new changes that enter into force on September 3, 2026.
