The Minister of Health and Social Welfare, Klodiana Spahiu, has officially assumed office today, after being sworn in in the presence of the President of the Republic, Bajram Begaj. Deputy Prime Minister Albana Koçiu was present at the introductory meeting of the new minister at the Ministry of Health and Social Welfare, and she praised Klodiana Spahiu's contribution to the health sector, her recognition of the priorities of this sector, as well as her commitment over the years in addressing issues of interest to citizens.

"The Ministry of Health, Social Affairs and Health will now be led by Klodiana Spahiu, who, due to her background, is first and foremost a doctor and is a very good connoisseur of all the priorities that the Ministry of Health, Social Affairs and Health has had over the years, as well as a very good lobbyist for all issues that require attention, not only from legislators, but also from citizens. She has been an extraordinary supporter of all those issues that you have all faced," said Koçiu.

Deputy Prime Minister Koçiu also praised the work of the previous Minister, Prof. Evis Sala, as well as the results achieved during her tenure. She underlined the importance of continuing reforms, including the reform of the oncology service and the establishment of the Oncology Institute at the University Hospital, the advancement of hospital autonomy, the reform of the structure of the hospital and primary services, as well as the further approximation of Albanian legislation to that of the European Union. In her speech, Minister Klodiana Spahiu emphasized the importance of a more open institution and closer to citizens, placing listening and addressing issues at the center of the work of the Ministry and health institutions.

"Starting tomorrow, we will have an open office at 08:00 in the morning, to address and listen to a problem that has not been solved elsewhere. For this purpose, we will all be engaged. The same will be done by all tertiary health institutions that are here. From this moment on, this will be our loyal presence and I insist at every moment that, in cases where we have problems or deficiencies, they will be reduced and improved, because this is an evolving process," she said. Minister Spahiu thanked the staff of the health system for their work and contribution, while presenting her vision for the direction of the sector and the continuation of the objectives for improving health services.
It placed emphasis on trust and cooperation within the system, as a basis for furthering the results achieved and for defining clear, short-term and medium-term objectives.

"I have been fighting the healthcare battle with you for 13 years. The challenge is multiple. The first challenge is for trust and don't forget this, because each of us must have this as our main goal. And I, at least, do not disagree with this principle. I want us to look ahead and the objectives that we will set for ourselves, short and medium term, to have a deadline," said Spahiu.

Profile of Minister Klodiana Spahiu
Dr. Klodiana Spahiu is a cardiologist and holds the title of “Doctor of Medical Sciences”. She graduated in General Medicine from the Faculty of Medicine of the University of Tirana in 1997 and specialized in Cardiology at the University Hospital of Tirana during the years 1998–2002.
He has completed advanced training in non-invasive and invasive cardiology in Italy, as well as postgraduate studies and a professional master's degree in Healthcare Management.
Her professional experience includes practicing as a cardiologist, managing Durrës Hospital, and engaging in university teaching.
Elected as a member of the Albanian Parliament in 2009, she continued her parliamentary activity and, in 2025, was appointed Deputy Speaker of the Parliament.
Dr. Klodiana Spahiu brings extensive medical, academic, and institutional experience to the leadership of the Ministry of Health and Social Welfare.
