Following the serious incident that shook Spanish football, goalkeeper Jesús Lázaro Owono has decided not to be part of the Equatorial Guinea squad for the upcoming matches.
The goalkeeper was involved in a collision with striker Jesús de Miguel during the match between Andorra and Tenerife in the Second Division. The striker died the next day, as a result of cardiac arrest.
The incident appears to have deeply affected Owono, who has asked his country's federation not to call him up for future international commitments.
Thus, Owono will not be available for the matches against Zimbabwe, valid for the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers.
