The conflict between the US, Iran and Israel has entered its 53rd day, with recent developments showing a mix of military tensions and uncertain efforts to restore diplomatic dialogue.

US-Iran talks in question
US Vice President JD Vance is expected to travel to Pakistan for a second round of talks with Iran. However, Tehran has not yet confirmed its participation, saying it is reconsidering its position after an initial refusal. The situation comes at a time when Donald Trump has repeated threats to “destroy” Iranian infrastructure and warned that he may not extend the ceasefire beyond Wednesday’s deadline. On the other hand, leaders of the Iranian parliament have reacted by declaring that the country holds “new cards on the battlefield.”

Positive signals from Pakistan
According to a senior Pakistani official, there is a "positive signal" from Iran about participating in the negotiations, adding that the talks could take place within this week, despite the current uncertainties.

Escalation at sea: seizures and collisions
The United States Central Command (CENTCOM) confirmed that US Marines seized an Iranian cargo ship that was trying to break the blockade near the Strait of Hormuz. According to Trump, US forces fired into the engine room after the ship “refused to stop.”

Strait of Hormuz closed again
Maritime transport through the vital artery has been disrupted again after Iran canceled its temporary reopening. Iranian authorities warned that the strait would remain closed until the US blockade is lifted. At least four attacks on ships attempting to pass through were reported over the weekend.

Fragile ceasefire in Lebanon
Meanwhile, a 10-day ceasefire between Israel and Lebanon remains in place and is seen as key to US-Iran negotiations. However, tensions remain high: over the weekend, three soldiers were reported killed, including two Israelis and a French peacekeeper. Displaced civilians in southern Lebanon continue to face uncertainty, with the Israeli military urging them not to return to evacuated areas just yet.
