Italian football is in a real crisis that will take years to recover from, to return to high levels once again. After failing to qualify for the World Cup for the third time in a row, Italy now finds itself outside the European Cups.
Bologna and Fiorentina were the last two teams left in the competition, but both of them were eliminated in the Europa League and the Conference League, both of whom were eliminated in the quarter-finals. For the first time in 39 years, Italy finds itself without a team in the semi-finals of a European competition.
Something like this last happened in the 1986-87 season.
