The leader of the Democratic Party, Sali Berisha, continued his statements regarding the events of January 21, 2011, emphasizing that during that day he was surrounded in his office and that, according to him, a trap was built against him through falsification of documents.

Berisha said that in the document presented as evidence for alleged corruption of the then deputy prime minister, in the initial version he appeared to be involved, but this was later retracted. "Through 'cut and paste', the document went from the 25th second to the 32nd second and then they said I was not involved," he declared, accusing Edi Rama of deliberately falsifying evidence.

According to Berisha, his responsibility does not lie in the accusations leveled against him, but in the way he managed the protests during his tenure. “My responsibility was that I handled 752 opposition protests with democratic standards, without any violations, in accordance with the rules of a democratic country,” he said.

He stressed that during the January 21 protest there were acts of violence, including stone throwing and the use of firearms, which he said were documented. “Bullets and revolvers were directed at the acting prime minister,” Berisha said.

Referring to his stance during the incident, Berisha said that he did not leave the office and did not accept the evacuation. "I did not barricade the doors, I was the one who was barricaded. I did not leave the office, I am not a coward who runs away. I was within my rights," he declared, adding that even during those hours he continued working in the office.

Berisha stressed that the elections held during his government were in line with key international standards, according to the OSCE/ODIHR. He added that in the meantime, Edi Rama, according to him, was standing in a building opposite and waiting for the moment to deliver a speech to the protesters, which, according to Berisha, did not happen.

In conclusion, Berisha described the January 21 event as unfortunate and stressed that he had requested an international investigation that night, insisting on this request continuously. "I do not take back a single word of what I said. He deserves it, because he entered into a shameful game," Berisha concluded.
