The UN welcomes the high-level dialogue between the United States and China and hopes that the leaders of the two countries will use the upcoming face-to-face meeting to resolve their differences.

UN Deputy Spokesperson Farhan Haq made this statement at a press conference, commenting on US President Donald Trump's state visit to China.

"We highly value any dialogue between two important countries like the United States and China, and we would like them to use such opportunities to resolve any disputes they may have," Haq said.

On Wednesday, the American leader traveled to China. As part of the visit, the US President will hold talks with the President of the People's Republic of China, Xi Jinping.

The consultations are expected to focus primarily on resolving bilateral trade and economic conflicts. In addition, key issues on the global agenda are expected to be discussed.

The head of the US administration will stay in China until May 15.
