The company “ONE Albania” has started increasing the prices of mobile services, through indexation with the average annual change in consumer prices, starting from May 1, 2026. The price increase will be up to 2.2%, according to the average annual inflation rate published by INSTAT. The application of such a practice raises concerns about the long-term effect it may have over time. An annual indexation, moreover in periods when inflation may be significantly higher, would lead to a progressive increase in communication costs for Albanian users.

"Monitor" magazine addressed an official request to the Competition Authority, to obtain a position from this institution on the fact whether the practice of automatic indexation of prices of electronic communications services raises problems related to competition law.

The Competition Authority states that this issue is one of the elements of the in-depth investigation that this institution opened in the retail mobile services market in November last year.

"We would like to inform you that during the in-depth investigation procedure in the retail market of mobile services, the Secretariat of the Competition Authority will also assess the application of the CPI rate, in accordance with the provisions of Law No. 9121, dated 28.07.2003 'On the Protection of Competition'. The investigation procedure is currently ongoing," the Competition Authority's response states.
