The Special Prosecution Office against Corruption and Organized Crime (SPAK) has presented to the court for the first time details on how the people behind the codes used on the encrypted platform Sky ECC were identified, in the process against Plaurent Dervishaj and Julian Meçe. Both are accused of involvement in the organization and financing of the assassination attempt on former prosecutor Arjan Ndoja and Aleksandër Laho. Journalist Klodiana Lala reports for BalkanWeb that during the court hearing, prosecutors explained that the identification of the persons was done through the analysis of communications, photos and personal data exchanged in the application's conversations.
According to SPAK, in some cases Sky ECC users have used pseudonyms related to their names, while in other cases identification has been made through personal data that they have sent themselves in communications. In the case of Plaurent Dervishaj, investigators have found a photo sent in conversations where the closure of an email address was requested. The same communications have also included family data, such as the names of children and their dates of birth. After verifications, this information has resulted to belong to Dervishaj.
Julian Meçe was identified in a similar manner, as several communications shared photographs and information that helped investigators connect the profile used on the app with his identity. The prosecution also announced that in some cases, people self-identified during conversations, providing information that directly led to their identity.
Another case of identification was made through the phone number of Redjan Rraja's lawyer. A photo was sent in communications showing the phone number and after verification, investigators found a memo prepared by the lawyer in question, which helped identify Ramazan Rraja.
