Pope Leo XIV has expressed sorrow over the recent violent attacks that have hit several cities and civilian infrastructure in Ukraine, causing casualties among the innocent population.

During the Angelus prayer, the pope said he had followed the news of the attacks with concern and expressed his solidarity with the Ukrainian people, who have been living in anxiety and fear for years.

"My heart goes out to the suffering of the population," he said, making a new appeal to end the violence and stop the destruction.

The Pope called on the parties to "open their hearts to dialogue and peace," while expressing hope that the efforts undertaken during these days to resume negotiations will bear "concrete fruits" and create space for diplomacy.

He thus emphasized the importance of dialogue and the diplomatic path to end the conflict and the suffering of the civilian population.
