The European Parliament has approved a proposal from the European Commission to grant Ukraine a loan of 90 billion euros to finance military and budgetary spending.
Members of the European Parliament approved the loan for Ukraine for the period 2026-27 with 458 votes in favor, with 140 lawmakers voting against and 44 abstentions, the Telegraph reports.
The loan for Ukraine consists of 60 billion euros in military aid and 30 billion euros in budget support financed through EU borrowing.
The vote in the European Parliament was previously scheduled for a special plenary session called on February 24 to mark the fourth anniversary of Russia's full invasion of Ukraine, but was postponed to February 11.
On December 19, the European Union summit adopted a decision on a joint loan to provide Ukraine with 90 billion euros, which covers two-thirds of Ukraine's needs in the period 2026-27 in both the budgetary and defense sectors.
On February 4, EU member state ambassadors in the Permanent Representatives Committee (Coreper) agreed on mechanisms to provide Ukraine with a €90 billion loan in 2026-27, including allowing third countries to participate.
