The head of the Democratic Party branch in Kruja, Aulon Kalaja, was invited to the show "This Week" on News24 with journalist Nisida Tufa, revealed details from the political behind-the-scenes within the right-wing camp and the relations of the historical leader Sali Berisha with the internationals.
Asked about the rumors and propaganda circulating that Sali Berisha is not interested in coming to power, but only in personal prestige and the removal of the "non-grata" status, Kalaja has rejected this theory, describing it as a narrative constructed by the left. However, he has revealed information regarding the period before Berisha was officially declared undesirable by the US.
"I don't believe this theory, it's leftist propaganda. But according to the information I have, Mr. Berisha was previously offered by the Americans to withdraw from politics. This happened before he was declared 'non-grata', there was a negotiation for him to take a step back, but the opposite happened," Kalaja declared.
According to Kala, claims that Berisha is simply fighting to maintain power within the party are unfounded, as he has never lost that power and influence, not even when he was not formally at the head of the DP.
"He has always had that power structure, even without being the leader of the Democratic Party. Those who are today at the top of the DP used to run to Berisha's office even when Lulzim Basha was the party leader. Now let's be realistic, because we lived there and we know these conversations," the head of the Kruja branch openly stated.
Kalaja pointed out that Berisha has achieved a personal victory by returning, taking over the party and the seal, but now the challenge is no longer his, but the entire structure of the Democratic Party to overthrow the government.
"He has achieved extraordinary victories for himself. He took the party, he took the seal. But the point is for the Democratic Party to win, not for Berisha to win. He has won the elections within the DP, whether through referendums or other processes. The problem now is what the DP will do to win the elections and defeat Edi Rama, because after many protests, we are still at this point," concluded Kalaja.
