Rama defended the demolition drive, adding that after his visit to the mountain village, before last year's parliamentary elections, illegal construction had "exploded", even occupying what he called "the world's postcard", the Church with the lawn in the center of the village.

After we came here to celebrate all the heroism... it is real heroism that you have done up until now when we started to come to your aid, when you became a government, because you have had no government, no roads, no electricity, no communication... for months, you know better than I do.
