The Speaker of the Albanian Parliament, Niko Peleshi, was received in Washington by Michael Rigas, the Deputy Secretary of State of the United States, in a meeting held at the US Department of State. The meeting focused on further strengthening the strategic partnership between Albania and the US.

According to the press office of the Parliament, during the talks, the role of the Parliament in advancing reforms, strengthening the rule of law and consolidating democratic institutions was emphasized, as key elements for the sustainable development of the country and Euro-Atlantic progress. Special attention was paid to the deepening of cooperation in the field of defense and security, as well as the joint commitment within NATO to confront regional and global challenges. The parties reaffirmed the importance of close cooperation in ensuring stability and security in the region.

The meeting also focused on American investments in strategic sectors, with an emphasis on energy, infrastructure and technology, as an important pillar for strengthening bilateral economic relations.

Discussions also included developments in the Western Balkans, with particular attention to Kosovo, where the need for stability, dialogue, and regional cooperation was underlined as essential factors for long-term peace and security. The meeting in Washington reaffirmed once again the close relations between Albania and the United States, as well as the joint commitment to deepening strategic cooperation in areas of common interest.

"Fruitful conversation with @nikopeleshi on building a stronger and more prosperous future for the United States and Albania. We will continue to cooperate with Albania on regional and global stability, strengthening NATO, dismantling transnational criminal organizations, and increasing opportunities for American businesses," Rigas wrote in his message.
