The deployment of new artillery systems by Norway near the border with Russia has prompted an immediate reaction from official Moscow. The spokesman for the Russian President, Dmitry Peskov, stated that the Russian military perceives this military reinforcement as a direct threat to national security, warning of taking retaliatory measures.

According to data made public by the Russian ambassador to Oslo, Nikolay Korchunov, Norway has already deployed an artillery battalion with four South Korean-made K9 self-propelled howitzers, which have a firing range of up to 40 kilometers. The Oslo military plan also envisages the transfer of 24 more similar systems to the Finnmark Brigade by the end of 2028, while by 2030 the Norwegian forces are expected to receive 16 MLRS K239 Chunmoo rocket launchers with a range of up to 500 kilometers.

Faced with this rearmament in the border areas, Peskov underlined that Oslo's actions are being closely followed by Moscow's military structures.

"Of course, such a military buildup aimed at our country, Russia, cannot but be perceived as a threat to Russia's security. This is a reason to take additional measures to ensure our security. Our Defense Ministry, as well as other relevant services, are dealing with this," the Kremlin spokesman said during a press conference.
