At least 95 people have died and hundreds more are missing as a result of devastating floods that hit Nepal, according to data reported by local newspaper The Kathmandu Post.
According to an official announcement from the Nepal Prime Minister's Office, the bodies of 95 victims have been recovered from the affected areas across seven districts, while the identification process continues.
The situation is particularly dire among the security forces, with 85 members missing, including 44 from the Nepal Army, 28 from the Nepal Police and 13 from the Armed Police Force. Search and rescue teams are on the ground to locate them.
In parallel, authorities announce that contact has been lost with 60 people engaged in various hydropower projects. The floods have also isolated 391 foreign tourists and 93 domestic tourists, with whom it is currently impossible to establish contact.
The flood has caused extensive damage to the country's infrastructure, with 19 bridges and about 40 kilometers of roads damaged. The disruption of communications and road closures are making rescue operations in the most isolated areas extremely difficult.
