Archaeologists have discovered a well-preserved male mummy inside a stone tomb during excavations in the Rimac district of Lima, the capital of Peru.
The mummy was wrapped in a bundle of burial materials, consisting of cotton of local origin, accompanied by various items such as necklaces, corn and seeds. These artifacts are estimated to be over 3 years old.
The discovery was made during the recovery and conservation works being carried out in the "Huaca La Florida" archaeological site by the municipality of the Rimac district in collaboration with the National University of San Marcos.
Archaeologists have received permission from Peru's Ministry of Culture to continue their excavations and further explore the historic site, which is recognized as a World Cultural Heritage.
