New details have emerged regarding the injury of police officer Arsen Toska, who was injured with his service weapon while escorting an arrested person to the Kuçova Police Station.
The 20-year-old is still at the Trauma Hospital, where he is receiving medical treatment for serious injuries and immobility of his lower limbs.
According to sources from the investigation group, the suspected perpetrator, Zamir Skënderi, has been questioned several times and has stated that he does not remember anything from the incident, as he claims to have been under the influence of narcotics.
"I don't remember anything that happened because I was under the influence of narcotics," the 45-year-old is reported to have told investigators.
The incident occurred on Monday evening in the village of Kutalli, in Dimal, as officers of the General Patrol were transporting the arrested man from Fier to the Kuçovë Police Station. During the escort, Skënder is suspected of taking the service weapon from police officer Arsen Toska and shooting him inside the police vehicle.
The perpetrator was arrested immediately afterwards by the two other officers in the vehicle, while he was trying to leave the scene.
In parallel with the investigations launched by the Prosecutor's Office at the First Instance Court of General Jurisdiction in Berat, the Police Supervision Agency is also conducting verifications to determine whether standard procedures were followed during the escort of the arrested person.
Another point being investigated is the fact why the 45-year-old man was not subjected to a thorough search by the Fier Police, while it is suspected that he had a significant amount of cocaine with him at the moment he got into the police vehicle.
