The National Food Authority has officially reacted to the case of poisoning of several trainees at the Safety Academy, noting that laboratory analyses have revealed a product that does not comply with food safety standards.

According to the AKU, nine food samples, including raw materials and finished products, were analyzed. The results of the reference laboratory at the Food Safety and Veterinary Institute showed that eight samples were within the norms, while one sample of ready-made pasta had an above-normal load of Escherichia coli and coagulase-positive staphylococcus.

According to the announcement, the problematic sample was taken in the kitchen within the premises of the Security Academy in Sauk. Due to these findings, the AKU has ordered the cessation of activity until the legal requirements for cleaning and disinfection of work premises and equipment are met. Following the investigation and tracing of the origin of the products, controls have also been extended to the “Skënderbej” Garrison near the Armed Forces of Albania, where the distributed food was produced.

Following the findings of health institutions and non-conforming hygiene results in stored samples and work equipment, the AKU has also suspended the activity of the entity SORI-AL with administrator Alma Tafanin, in the premises of the “Skënderbej” Garrison. An administrative measure of 1.5 million lek fine has also been imposed on the entity for trading unsafe food and violating hygiene and sanitary conditions. The AKU announced that the company has also been tasked with the destruction of the blocked product that resulted outside food safety standards.

AKU'S REACTION
The National Food Authority, in continuation of public information and transparency, announces that in reference to the suspected poisoning of several trainees at the Safety Academy, Sauk, nine samples (raw materials and finished products) have been sampled by the AKU.

We are informed by the ISUV Reference Laboratory that eight samples tested have come within the norms and one ready-made pasta sample has resulted non-conforming for a load above the norm of Escherichia.Coli and B staphylococcus coagulase positive, this sample was sampled in the kitchen within the premises of the Security Academy, Sauk.

Due to these findings, the NFA took the measure of suspending activity until the legal requirements from the OBU for cleaning and disinfection of work environments and equipment are met.

Following the traceability investigation, at the address of the "Skënderbej" Garrison near the Armed Forces, where the production of these products was carried out, referring to the findings of health institutions, on the final report of the epidemiological investigation for non-conforming results for hygiene indicators, evidenced in the samples in storage as well as in some of the work equipment,

The AKU took measures to terminate the activity of the entity SORI-AL also at the address of the "Skënderbej" Garrison near the Armed Forces.

An administrative measure of 1,500,000 lek was also imposed for unsafe food and hygienic-sanitary conditions. The subject was tasked with taking measures to carry out the disposal procedure for the blocked product that resulted non-compliant.
