The Democratic Party has reacted to the poisoning of 56 students at the Security Academy. In a statement to the media, the anti-corruption spokesperson for the Democratic Party, Genta Vangjeli, stressed that the students were poisoned after allegedly consuming contaminated food, while accusing the government of corruption.

Vangjeli said that the Sori-AL company with administrator Alma Tafani, who has been declared wanted since yesterday, was favored in receiving the 2.8 million euro tender from the Centralized Purchasing Operator, an institution headed by Arlinda Pogaj, while the competition was fictitious since other economic operators did not submit a real offer and were consequently disqualified. The tender was held in 2025 for a 3-year period.

The DP demands a full investigation into this matter. It also calls on citizens to join the protest today, announced at 19:00 PM, against the injustices against them.

statement

This Wednesday, around 56 Police Academy students ended up in the QSUT emergency room with symptoms of poisoning, after allegedly consuming contaminated food on the premises of the Security Academy.

The complications began after consuming lunch, putting the health of the young people at risk.

This is not the first time that mass poisonings have occurred in public institutions, where the victims are students, children, and innocent citizens. How many times must these scandals be repeated for the state to be held accountable?

The real cause of this poisoning is not just contaminated food. The cause is the state itself. It is the ministers, directors, and officials who have turned public tenders into a mechanism for robbery and personal enrichment.

From 2019 onwards, contracts for cooking services are no longer for a one-year term, but for three years, while the basic conditions remain almost unchanged.

What changes is only the value, which only increases and is of course paid for by Albanian taxes.

In 2019, the Centralized Purchasing Agency under the Ministry of Interior procured the food cooking and distribution service for the Security Academy for about 47 thousand euros per month, or 1.7 million euros for three years.

Meanwhile, in the last tender of 2025, conducted by the Centralized Purchasing Operator, in addition to a fictitious competition, where out of three participating operators, only the winner submitted a real offer and documentation, while the other two did not submit anything and were disqualified, almost 80 thousand euros per month were procured for the same object, or 2.8 million euros for three years.

The question that arises today is simple: where did the extra millions of Albanians go? Who benefited from the almost 70% increase in these contracts?

Are these tenders being used as corruption schemes to line the pockets of Edi Rama's ministers and directors, while students are given food that takes them to the hospital?

The Democratic Party demands a full and transparent investigation into this scandal, as well as criminal and administrative liability for every official involved in these abusive procurements that endanger the lives and health of citizens.

Today we don't just have a massive poisoning. Today we have a state rotten with corruption, where public funds are stolen, while citizens are returned with insecurity, poverty, and danger to their lives.

Therefore, we invite all citizens today at 19:00 PM in front of the Prime Minister's Office to protest against this regime that is stealing, oppressing, impoverishing, and now even endangering the lives of Albanians.
