A Kosovar citizen, who was arrested in March of this year at the Morina border crossing, will be extradited to Belgium.
This concerns citizen Berat Gashi, who has been sentenced to 40 months in prison by the Antwerp City Court for committing two criminal offenses. Specifically, Gashi is accused of attempted theft of a quantity of cocaine at the port of Antwerp, where he was spotted on video footage near containers that had come from Ecuador, as well as drug trafficking.
“Berat Gashi has been convicted of attempted possession, purchase and transport of cocaine, committed in collaboration, offences which were committed in Antwerp on 7 and 8 March 2021. On the evening of 7 March at dawn on 8 March 2021, Gashi was seen when he and an accomplice were among containers in the port of Antwerp, apparently to remove drugs from a container. He was arrested by police forces after he was able to leave the scene. A backpack and two sports bags were found among the containers and a key was found on the escape route. From the check of their phones it was learned that they had entered Belgium on 7 March 2021, at 23:55. From the check of the cameras it was learned that the two accused can be seen through the containers at around 00:09 and 01:43. They were wearing black clothes and were moving through containers," the investigative file states.
