Students who have been protesting in Tirana for weeks against the government and demanding the resignation of Prime Minister Edi Rama continue to oppose the way the government is reacting to their revolt.
Invited to an interview for News24, student Anjeza Marku described the violence against young people as barbaric, emphasizing that repression has not extinguished the protest. She stated that large protests will continue twice a week, while revolt and opposition to the government remain daily. According to Marku, the violence and the way the government is acting have severely damaged the image of Albanian politicians in the eyes of internationals, especially that of Prime Minister Rama.
The student called for citizens to unite in a common front against the government, while demanding that SPAK be allowed to investigate all officials without distinction, regardless of the function they hold.
Anjeza Marku: I think that when there is such repression, protesting twice a week is an important thing. This does not mean that we should only gather twice a week, but twice a week we hold the big protest.
This is because the revolt continues daily. The state has the arsenal of violence, which is its most powerful maneuver, and alongside it it also establishes the law, which is modified in the interest of those who govern the country. The image of Albanian politicians has been ruined even before the international community. Prime Minister Rama's goal is to look good before the international community. And this has already been shaken and the image of the prime minister has been torn in the eyes of diplomats. Rama is the man whose nose was broken many years ago and is doing the same thing today, he only knows the monopoly of violence. Albania today is an unlivable and dictatorial country. We must not allow Prime Minister Edi Rama to do whatever he wants with power. We are for the greatest possible unity of all Albanians, in one front.
Tomorrow there is a call to have as many people as possible, because this gives a clear message. I believe that justice would overthrow Prime Minister Edi Rama. SPAK should be allowed to do its job, regardless of whether you are a minister, deputy prime minister or prime minister.
