Former Ambassador Agim Nesho, invited to News24, commented on the latest developments in Kosovo after the start of the third mandate of Prime Minister Albin Kurti's government.
According to Nesho, the Kurti government's main priority remains Kosovo's integration into the Euro-Atlantic community, including NATO membership. He also emphasized the government's tough line in the fight against corruption and organized crime, emphasizing that Kosovo, although a young republic, is one of the most exemplary democracies in the Balkans with democratic norms.
"Dialogue with Serbia is another key issue. Countries aiming to join the EU must have resolved problems among themselves. Prime Minister Kurti has called for mutual recognition as a crucial condition for advancing negotiations, seeking the elimination of tensions between the two countries," Nesho said.
He added that until now Kosovo has often been only the subject of European discussions on the normalization of relations, where priority has been given to Serbia. “European policies have time and again tolerated Serbia's nationalist stances, exerting widespread pressure and imposing sanctions on Kosovo,” the former ambassador emphasized.
Nesho noted that this third mandate of the Kurti government has the opportunity to strengthen Kosovo's position in the international arena and advance the processes of integration and normalization of regional relations.
