European Union Enlargement Commissioner Marta Kos has once again condemned Serbian Minister Snezhana Paunovic's statement regarding "ethnic cleansing" in Kosovo, describing it as shocking and unacceptable for an official of a candidate country for EU membership.
During her speech to the Special Committee on the European Democracy Shield in the European Parliament, Kos said she was surprised that Paunovic continues to hold her ministerial post.
"It was shocking to hear something like this in 2026. I won't even repeat what she said. I can't imagine that a minister, after such a public statement, can continue to exercise her duty," Kos declared.
She called on politicians in candidate countries for membership in the European Union to be aware that every public statement has weight and consequences.
