The EU ambassador in our country, Silvio Gonzato, was in a meeting in Shkodër organized within the "EU for municipalities" program, where the achievements of the last three years in the municipalities where it was implemented were analyzed.

He praised the justice reform, while stressing that SPAK should be allowed to do the work.

Gonzato emphasized that the results of SPAK's work are those expected by the EU.

According to the ambassador, corruption is Albania's main obstacle on the way to the EU.

"We don't talk about ongoing investigations, but I can say that what is happening is what we have been waiting for. And of course the Justice Reform of 2016 is working. We must allow SPAK to do its work, create the space for them to do so. At the same time I can say that maybe that reform ensures that the judicial system is independent, independent from political influence.

And the problem that we all know is Albania's main obstacle on the way to the EU is corruption.

I think it is a good signal, I believe and hope that SPAK will do its job. But we don't want to look at the punitive aspect, but also the structure, the environment that creates this opportunity for corruption to be addressed," he said.
