The foreign ministers of the United Arab Emirates, Qatar, Jordan, Indonesia, Pakistan, Turkey, Saudi Arabia and Egypt have condemned Israel's rejection of a 15-point document proposed by US President Donald Trump's Peace Council for Gaza.
In a joint statement, the ministers warn that Israel's stance on implementing the plan endangers efforts to establish a lasting peace in the region.
"Unwavering positions in direct denial of the Plan risk undermining its efforts and negatively impact efforts to achieve a just and comprehensive peace," the statement said.
According to the ministers, the rejection of the roadmap shows that Israel "is now holding hostage efforts to bring peace to Gaza and the entire Occupied Palestinian Territory."
The document also notes that the plan has been accepted by the Palestinian factions and is the result of the efforts of mediators.
The roadmap foresees, among other things, the disarmament of the groups, the withdrawal of Israeli forces, the deployment of an International Stabilization Force, the transfer of administrative authority to the National Committee for the Administration of Gaza, and the launch of the process of reconstruction of the territory.
The foreign ministers of the eight countries have praised the plan as an opportunity to end the conflict and create the basis for a diplomatic and long-term solution to the situation in Gaza.
