Besart Kelmendi, a rapper from Peja known as Gjesti, has been detained by the Kosovo Police in Pristina on suspicion of possessing weapons without a permit.

According to preliminary information, the artist is being held in police custody for 48 hours, a standard investigative procedure that gives the Kosovo State Prosecution time to assess the evidence and circumstances of the case to decide whether the case will be sent to court.

Sources for "Demantim News" report that Gjesti is suspected of having gone armed to Erkand Shabani, the owner of the Onima music company. According to the same sources, this is not the first time that there have been tensions between the parties, but this time the situation is suspected of having escalated after the singer threatened him with a firearm.

The conflict is suspected to be related to a contract that Gjesti had signed with the company "Onima" before entering the Big Brother VIP Albania show. After leaving the third edition of this reality show, he had requested to terminate the contract, which according to sources has created a clash between the parties.

According to the Criminal Code of the Republic of Kosovo, two main sanctions are foreseen for unauthorized possession or keeping of weapons: a fine that can reach up to 7,500 euros or a prison sentence of up to five years.

However, in many cases of simple gun possession, where the weapon was not used to commit another crime, courts often impose more lenient sentences, such as fines or suspended sentences.
